Name: Caterina Rivera aka Phantom
Age: 14
Race: Human
Powers:
Intangibility - The ability to pass through solid objects. This ability cannot be used against any energy, light, magic, or interdimentional attacks and objects. While phasing completely through an object it is impossible for her to breathe and because of this, she cannot stay phased for long. It is possible to get caught halfway in an object and not be able to free herself. If holding onto a person it is possible to phase with them but does not always work. In addition, she can phase with objects that she can carry. When knocked out, she is caught in whatever phased state she was in (ex. if she was halfway through the wall, that's where she's stuck).
Physical Disruption - A technique of Intangibility that damages, disrupts, or displaces matter by either phasing through it or phasing part of the body through before un-phasing the body. This ability doesn't effect everything and is only intended to be used on inanimate objects (like computers). Because this is a technique that stems from intangibility, the same rule applies towards raw energy, light, magic, and interdimentional objects.
Date of birth: 12/21
Home: Jump City
Alliance: Neutral (for now)
Relationship: Alessandra (sister/biological/unknown)
Appearance:
Personality:
The first thing one thinks when meeting Caterina is that she is secretive. Her quiet demeanor and withdrawn nature only help to further those thoughts. She hates letting people get close to her out of a single fear that she'll get hurt or used. She gets easily attached to people she views as "friends" and inevitably distances herself from them as a way to protect not only herself but them as well. She hates seeing people hurting and will go out of her way to stop it even if it jeopardizes her own life.
In public, she'll be the typical carefree sort of girl one would expect. Respectful and polite, even if she dislikes you because you'll never know. She has a habit of being polite to everyone whether she likes you or not, whether you're good or evil, and whether you're a friend or not. She claims not to care what others think of her, even going so far as to outright try and prove it when in reality she really does care. She isn't one for playing mind games with others but her lack of experience in the real world makes her easy to manipulate even if she doesn't trust the people around her.
She is a very bright girl, excelling in math and science more than any other subject. She is almost always eager to learn something new but to keep up appearances she will act like the typical teenager and act like she's bored to death. Aside from the understanding of math and science, she has a love for music. Lastly, her fatal flaw is the longing to belong somewhere. She wants more than anything to find a place she belongs with people she trusts and to regain her lost memories. Without her memories, she doesn't have anything to hold onto.
History:
Caterina grew up never knowing her parents. She was put up for adoption right after birth and luckily was adopted soon after. Her adopted mother lived all alone and had taken her in because she saw something special in the baby. Her adopted mother raised her with the same rules as every other normal teenager (curfew, do your homework, be polite, etc.) and everything else that wasn't mentioned in those rules was set on the standard of "do what you think is the right thing". Raised like this, Caterina did the right thing but always did them how she thought was right even if it wasn't exactly the correct way to go about the situation. During her early childhood, she was plagued by nightmares of scary monsters after watching horror movies and she spent most of her day outside when not in school. Overall her childhood was pretty average, until her "mom" got sick.
It was a cold day in the middle of autumn, school had just started, and Caterina wasn't going. She had chosen to skip school at the age of ten almost eleven to help take care of the woman that had given her a home all these years. She did everything she could to help, but over time what started as a cold grew much worse. She even pulled out of school so she could be homeschooled, just so she could be a moment's notice away from her "mom". As her "mother" grew more sick by the day, she grew more withdrawn. She lived within a ghost of her former "happy go lucky" self and only smiled when things seemed to get better. Things stayed this way for another year before she realized the truth. She didn't understand how she knew, but she did. Her "mother" knew there was nothing that could be done.
Not ready to give up just yet, she took matters into her own hands. She searched everyday for what it was exactly that she was trying to beat. the word sickness didn't cover it. One month of research and on her twelfth birthday, things got worse. Her "mother" had a heart attack and an ambulance took her to the hospital. It was here at this hospital that they told her what was wrong. The woman that had adopted her was dying of pancreatic cancer. They had diagnosed her too late and there was little they could do. When her adopted mother passed away a few months after she turned thirteen, she was prepared to get sent to another home when someone within the city was willing to take her in. That person was a nineteen year old by the name of Alessandra. Even though Caterina didn't like the woman for some reason, it was still better than not having anything.
As the months went by, there was a growing friction between both Caterina and Alessandra that ended up resulting in an argument. That argument was enough to push her into running away, even if she did originally have plans to go back eventually but fate had other plans. She ran as fast as she could and as far as she could, looking over her shoulder every so often to make sure she wasn't followed. As she ran across the street with her gaze focused behind her, she was struck by an oncoming car and hospitalized from the injuries.
Opening her eyes for the first time after that accident was like seeing for the first time. She had no recollection of anything and instantly closed off from the doctors that tried to speak with her. When she did speak, her words were soft and polite just as her expressions said more than her words did. But there was something the doctor's noticed. Being here, in the sickly white room of the hospital, was making her appear slightly paranoid and jump at the slightest sound. Thanks to the advancements of today's medical technology they were able to identify her by genetics and contacted her current legal guardian. When Alessandra arrived at the hospital the doctor showed her to the room but stopped her before going in and started explaining the situation.
The sound of a strange yet familiar voice outside her room was enough to make Caterina panic. She scrambled out of the hospital bed, falling in the process but in the panicked moment she didn't hit the floor. Instead, she went through the floor and landed on the floor of the room beneath hers. Scared of what had just happened, her instant thought was that the hospital people had done something to her. Her fear was elevated as she heard the doctor open the door to her room and initiate a search. The only thing her mind processed now was one word. Run. And that is what she did. She ran from the hospital and got lost in her own hometown. Now wandering the city on her own, she stole some clothes and ditched the hospital gown. Her only goal now was regaining her memory and finding a place to stay.
Anything else: Does a fear of Hospitals and Doctors count?
